Homeschool Support
HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT

Homeschool Support

Whether you're new to homeschooling or need specialized academic intervention, I can provide one-on-one or small group (2-5 students max) instruction, 3 hr sessions, 2-3 times a week for core academic subjects (reading, writing and math), organization and study skills along with mindfulness strategies for stress management.

What I Offer

One-on-one individualized skill sessions (30, 45 or 60 minutes) are offered, using a multi-sensory and minimal tech approach. Sessions are tailored to the individual needs of the student and family and are offered in-home* or virtually using Zoom, Google Meeting. Working in a one-on-one setting, students have the opportunity to hone their academic skills in the areas in which they are struggling. An initial intake consult is scheduled to discuss ongoing challenges, review and complete paperwork and conduct an informal assessment. Following the intake meeting, I will review diagnostic evaluations and other relevant materials, in order to develop an educational plan that will be presented to the client at the following session. Using a variety of research-based tools and techniques, I work with each student to develop straightforward, easily understandable methods to access school curriculum. By tailoring and scaffolding instruction, students are able to build a foundation of skills.

Who I Serve

I work with all ages and with varied learning profiles and backgrounds. I specialize in reading and writing remediation, which are weaknesses often present in students who struggle with executive functioning. I work with students with various diagnosed and undiagnosed learning issues including:

  • ADHD

  • ADD

  • Executive Function

  • Anxiety

  • Learning Disabilities (LD)

  • Dyslexia and related reading disorders

  • Auditory processing delays

  • Visual processing delays

  • Sensory Processing Disorder

  • Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities (NVLD)

My Approach

I believe in a holistic approach to teaching and learning. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is essential to a child’s ability to learn. It encompasses skills that people utilize throughout their lives to continuously grow, learn, and contribute to society.

In my experience, when SEL needs are not addressed, learning is delayed and in worst-case scenarios, not achieved. Taking into account the social emotional needs of a student as I plan and deliver lessons is an important part of what I do and how I work and succeed with students in academic areas. My goal is to support students by fostering their social and emotional skills alongside their academics, so they are able to thrive no matter what is happening in the world around them.

My approach is not a traditional scholastic tutoring session in which homework or school projects are the focus, but if an assignment lends itself to a particular skill we are working on, it will be incorporated into our lesson. When working with students who are struggling with executive function and non-verbal learning disabilities, however, incorporating schoolwork is more common. In addition, organization, time management and long-term assignment planning may also be integrated into the sessions. My overall goal is to assist students in developing strategies both inside and outside of the classroom.

“Research has shown that the five key competencies that make up social and emotional learning (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making) increase student’s academic performance, reduce aggression and emotional distress among students, increase helping behaviors in school, and improve positive attitudes toward self and others.”
